I have been in pretty good shape my whole life, as a child I was a dancer and then as I go older I played sports as well as worked out at the gym. After College I got engaged and became what I like to call “happy fat”. I gained about 20 lbs the first year we were together. I lost some of it for my wedding and then started putting it back on each year. When I got pregnant with my first son I was already over weight, so needless to after my second son was born 21 months later I was now another 30 lbs heavier than that. I began to have back and knee problems, it was so bad I had a hard time playing with my boys or even just picking them up. Working full time and having two small children at home did not allow me time to get to the gym or have any time for myself. I was so ashamed of how I looked I didn’t even want to go out anymore.

One day a very close friend of mine was telling me about this 12 week Body Challenge at the gym she takes boxing classes at called the Fitness Asylum. She asked me if I wanted to join her on the challenge, but I didn’t have much time to sign up so I had to decide in the next day or so. I was really scared, but after talking with Bonnie and my husband, I was optimistic about this new journey I was about to take.

The first day of the kick off was so inspiring it made me think “if they can do it so can I”. I was now more determined than ever to lose the 40 – 50 lbs I had put on over the past 7 years. I kept thinking how all of the success stories seemed to end with “Do what Bonnie tells you to do and it WILL WORK”. So I decided that day to put my faith in her and trust the process. My first class was hard but I loved the pace and energy of the workout. The trainers were super nice and really helpful. No one seemed to judge you, as we all have the same goals in mind. I looked forward to my weekly workouts and weigh in. During the 12 weeks my team leader Martie Porter and the Inner Circle on Facebook became my life. Their support made it easier for me to be honest with myself, and see what other people were doing for food. The weekly weigh in also helped to keep me from “cheating” as I had to be accountable for each thing I ate on the scale and in my journal. I have made a lot new friends along the way and I have a whole new outlook on life.

I have lost a total of 33.7 lbs and I feel great. I dropped from a size 14 to a size 6 pants and a size XL shirt to S/M. My knee and back issues have disappeared. I have gotten my self-confidence back and feel like the younger me. The most amazing part for me is now having the energy to enjoy playing with my two little boys.

If you are questioning whether to do this challenge, stop questioning it and just do it! Bonnie’s plan worked for me and many others. The Fitness Asylum is not your typical fitness place. It is a place of support and genuine people that care about each other’s success. You will find more then you are looking for here, I know I did!
