I was fast approaching the big milestone- the dreaded “50” year old point in my life! Let’s face it, I wasn’t getting any younger or slimmer. I had always been thin, but now the weight was packing on fast and it was so hard to diet or even lose a small amount, as my metabolism was changing. The reality: I was 20 lbs overweight, and it showed! Every day I thought about this extra weight and tried to “diet” but I was lacking motivation, support, and know-how.
One day I was inspired by my coworker Michelle, she had just completed the Monster Mash Bikini Competition in November and she looked totally amazing! I thought to myself…I could do that! Although I did not physically work out in a long time, I was ready to make the needed change in my life. I inquired about the Fitness Asylum’s program and joined the next challenge.
The Bikini Challenge journey was one of the hardest 12 weeks of my life. It took motivation, determination, and lots dedication! I was nervous attending my first Boot camp, but the instructors were inviting and made everyone feel comfortable. I met and established so many wonderful friendships from people who knew exactly what I was going through, as we had the same shared goals. The Fitness Asylum members were so supportive and had such camaraderie! It was like having a second family!
I learned so much from the Fitness Asylum and its staff; how to exercise properly, eat right, care for my skin, and how to look great and mostly feel fantastic! I lost a total of 22 lbs after joining the program. I went on to compete in the WNBF Novice Northeast Classic and was happy to place in my category. The end result and “show day” was so euphoric, an experience I will never forget! I would absolutely recommend the Bikini Challenge or any other challenge offered, because if I can do it, than anyone can!
There will always be naysayers and jealous people out there; do these challenges for yourself, do this because you want it, but mostly DO IT! You will not regret your decision as you will gain confidence and self esteem. This opportunity was an amazing experience, and I’m so glad I was able to take part in such an astonishing event with fabulous people!
