I have always been an active person involved in sports, and over the past 5 years weight lifting. I got to a point where I was very fit, but felt like my body didn’t reflect how I felt on the inside. My friend Jackie did the bikini competition through the Fitness Asylum and looked amazing. Once I saw her I knew this was something I wanted to do; she was very inspiring. So after a year of contemplation I jumped in feet first and signed up for the challenge.
I have always been a healthy eater, but I learned that I wasn’t eating enough to achieve my goals. I think as a woman we are afraid of overeating, but now I am not afraid to eat the amount that my body needs of the right foods for me. The program validated that lifting moderately heavy is the way to go, and at the Fitness Asylum I especially enjoyed the speciality Hardcore class.
In all honesty this is no cake walk. As Bonnie likes to say “If it were easy everyone would do it.” I had moments that I didn’t know if I was going to finish, but with the help of the private Facebook page, support of other competitors, coach Bonnie, going to posing classes and my family and friends I made it! I’m so glad I did, because walking on that stage was a ton of fun. I had no idea how much fun I would have, and I walked off stage the first time with a giant grin.
It has truly been one of the most challenging and rewarding things I have ever done. I pushed myself to limits I didn’t know I was capable of and had an amazing time on stage. If you want to bring yourself to the next level do it you won’t regret it!
