I have participated in the body challenges since April 2013 with not only weight loss success, but a wealth of knowledge about food, exercise, supplements, and more importantly, myself. It has been an incredible journey that I am grateful for everyday. Right before the Bikini Challenge was announced, I had found myself stuck at the same weight for a few months. I wanted to work on those last 10 pounds or so and was struggling with how to do that. That’s when Bonnie’s message went out about the Bikini Challenge. She mentioned that this challenge would be for those looking to take things to the next level, anyone who had between 10-15 pounds to lose. While the actual name of the challenge frightened me, I talked it over with my husband and he agreed that it sounded like just what I was looking for.
This challenge far exceeded my expectations. I was waking up feeling great everyday. I overcame the idea driven in my mind that “breakfast” had to be breakfast food. Once I had my coffee I was eating things I never would have imagined eating in the morning. I had heard Bonnie say over and over that food is fuel, and I truly did not embrace those words until this challenge. Food is fuel and it feels so good to feed my body with food that energizes and sustains. I had no intentions of getting up on stage in a bikini at the end of the challenge, none whatsoever. However, as my body started to change from week to week and other bikini challengers offered words of encouragement, I actually began to contemplate the idea.
My husband was so encouraging, always telling me how proud he was of me for being so strong and dedicated. I decided to make the stage a celebration of my commitment to the challenge. What an amazing experience! I still can’t even believe that I got up on that stage! I was completely out of my comfort zone and pretty much frightened the entire time, but am beyond proud of myself for dropping my fears and sharing that stage with a group of fabulous, dedicated, incredibly strong women. Since I feel more comfortable being covered up, my bikini will most likely retire in my drawer, but I will never forget my entire bikini challenge experience, from start to finish. SO glad I finished!
