I joined the Bikini Challenge for many reasons. After several decades of skiing and snowboarding, I suffered with intense knee pain. With nothing torn or ripped, all they docs would prescribe was PT, exercise and cortisone injections. Those treatments didn’t work and after several years, I gave up – who wants to exercise while in excruciating pain? In addition, over the last few years I had gained over 15 pounds which made my knee pain worse. So, after seeing my friend, Margaret Hart’s first Before & After pics I was sold! I joined the Spring 2017 Bikini Challenge Program with a whole lot of heart and somewhat realistic goals – to walk without pain and to look good in my clothes again. I remember my first boot camp, I had on long warm-up suit pants, a massive knee brace and could not do even one (correct form) squat! Well, sad to say, after a few weeks of my first challenge I had to drop out. The knee pain was too intense and I couldn’t keep up with the program’s strength training schedule.
I was determined to accomplish my goals, so I focused on the eating program during my time off and joined the Fall 2017 Bikini Challenge team with a strong will to succeed. The team approach to this program is like no other. The spirit, the passion, the love, and the beauty of all types is all so inspiring and I might add addicting! The Fall Stage Competition date was two days after my 56th birthday, which gave me even more resolve to “get on stage!” I wanted to not only show myself and my family what I could do but I wanted to do this for my mom who passed away at the age of 55, of Breast Cancer. I couldn’t think of a better way to honor my mother than to get as healthy and strong as I could and have some fun competing. Mommy was rather vain and would have loved the stage make-up and the bikini! Well, I did accomplish my goals – I look great in my clothes, I have less knee pain and I can do a squat – the correct way! Oh, and winning my Pro Card was an added bonus! A special thanks goes to the Bikini Challenge community and the awesome trainers! A special shout-out goes to Angelica who at the last minute, convinced me to compete in the Classic Category and to our Wizard Of Badass, Bonnie!
