Carol Flynn | The Fitness Asylum

Carol Flynn

At 5’5” tall and 175lbs, I had an “a-ha” moment around Thanksgiving Day 2011 – more like an “Ohhhh Nooooo” moment filled with embarrassment, desperation and some serious blues.

How did I let myself get HERE? I’m not big boned and there was hardly any muscle on this 5’5” frame, unfortunately – so those aren’t valid excuses. “HOW did I LET myself go THAT much?” “Didn’t I care about myself or those who love me?” But… all of the excuses spinning around in my head did not solve the issue and making myself feel bad, (being a victim), was also not solving the problem.

An injury a year earlier had side-lined my health, one of the very closest people in the world to me (my grandmother) health was ailing fast and there was nothing I could do to fix it and work was a world wind for a number of years, where I didn’t feel much control… -much like every part of my life Thanksgiving 2011. Those were all reasons WHY – but not solutions to correcting the issue.

Thankfully, I had a very dear friend who was a successful Challenger, encouraged me to give it a try… “Drop in for a class and see how your ankle feels and take it at your own pace, Carol. I know you will LOVE it!”.

I trusted my friend and in just that ONE hour, at that one class, on that one night…, was all it took. I was HOOKED! A little white building and a woman named Bonnie Lefrak who designed The Ultimate Body Challenge Program and an environment that totally kicks ass! TRAINER Extraordinaire. Her heart and her belief in her clients is BIGGER than the WORLD. She will do whatever it takes to help you get yourself to where you want to go. YOU will work… and you’ll love it!

Every entry in your food journal.
Every drop of sweat that hits the floor. : )
Even every time you step on the scale once a week.
Every cheer you hear of your name by Bonnie or a fellow Challenger – or that dear friend who is encouraging you… listen to them!

WHY? Because this program WORKS. There is NOTHING like it, I’ve ever experienced and although it is trying and tests you mentally… and there WILL be days when you wonder if you have it in you? Know that you do and you will get through it with a little help from your friends. You’ll wonder how you ever got along without it once, you’ve committed and seen the results and felt the “Cheers” of Shrewsbury feeling, that only exists at The Fitness Asylum. We’re in it together and we know what it’s like.

It’s not all “flowers and rainbows”. It’s not. It’s hard work. It’s what will make you proud and keep you engaged – for a lifetime. It’s a life-long program you will live and be so happy you started when you did! I would NOT dream of stopping – on my 6th Challenge (a full year) and LOVING it still. The results are unlike any other.

All it took was a little leap of faith and some sweet support by my friends at 56 Summer Street.

As for that ankle…? It likes strength training – a lot! And honestly, knowing how incredibly awesome The Fitness Asylum is – a year later… if I was unfortunate, enough to have a walking boot on both legs (instead of only one as I did 2 years ago), I’d be here at The Fitness Asylum with bells on those boots – just to be in the environment and to hear the “Woo Hoo’s!”. We love it here!
