My story feels like many others. I watched from afar on Facebook for a long time and was wowed by the transformations. I was turning 40, have two amazing little girls, and a full time career. As an athlete most of my life – competitive gymnast and dancer – I considered myself pretty fit but then life took over. Sporadically I would start to get back on track, completed a triathlon in my 30s and cycle every summer but I still didn’t feel like myself, not the me I wanted to be.
It was finally time to make my health a priority and I joined FA in Spring of 2015. I had always been within 5 lbs of the same weight for as long as I could remember and figured that was just where my body likes to be. But the weight slowly started to come off and I started to feel stronger. I watched the spring Bikini Challengers in Bootcamps and knew I wanted to get to a higher level of fitness. In my 20s I considered doing fitness competitions, but never went after it. When the fall challenge came around, I was in 100%!
Initially, my goal was to get on stage and say I did it. As the weeks went on, I felt great – strong, healthy, full of energy, and dare I say lean. Others in the gym would ask if I was doing ‘figure’ …what the heck was that. My competitive nature came out and I went for it all – I entered 5 categories! I thought maybe I would get under 140, but got down into the 120s, and I swear I haven’t seen that number since middle school. I felt amazing when I walked on that stage, don’t get me wrong, nervous as all get out, but once I settled in, I enjoyed every minute. I am proud to have walked away with 5 trophies!
Huge sense of accomplishment. I feel empowered to continue the lifestyle of clean eating and fitness. Loving showing my girls what it really means to be a strong woman … and my new wardrobe.
If you’re thinking about it, go for it. There is a plan, it takes work but it can be done, and all the support you need. You will meet so many amazing women along the way and feel more strong, sexy, and confident than ever before. Thank you to the FA family for making a difference in my life!
